My only negative comment would be regarding the two young girls on reception. One was obviously working and I wasn't really sure what the other young girl was doing other than staring into space and yawning. I smiled a couple of times at her this was not returned. For many people in this department its often a stressful time and the last thing one wants to see is a young girl who is too tired to be at work looking totally bored and uninterested in patients. I do feel that having an older person on reception would be more appropriate. We have mystery shop videos carried out on us maybe this should be done then the young lady may see have she is presenting herself to others. There was no empathy at all from her. I went over and asked a question and it was as if I was bothering them, everything seemed to be too much of an effort for them. All the other staff were fantastic however these two young girls let the team down.
The drug Epilim was prescribed but, despite explaining the intolerance to this medicine - the nurses refused to change it resulting in zombie like effects endured. Since then it has been learned that this is a very dangerous drug- similar to thalidomide. It should be withdrawn. It was a battle to be taken of this severely debilitating drug. Despite complaints and a life ruined-no notice was taken by hospital staff and no review took place.
The car park at worthing is now very full up most of the time so it is hard to find anywhere to park, this needs to be addressed. The hospital staff also seem more over run than they were 3 and half years ago when I last stayed at the hospital.
The Rheumatology secretaries at Worthing & Southlands are extremely rude & make many errors. Unfortunately you cannot even tell them about it as they do not listen. Not want you want to have to deal with, especially when unwell.
I had doubts about Worthing, but i understand that the pace of life in this town in considerably slower than a London hospital, but I think the staff do an amazing job attending to the needs of a growing city. My time and stay with working has been very good, i think highly of their services and the wards that I have stayed in have always been clean and had the best staff working on them. Kind and friendly. It really hits home when you return home and don't even get the same attention from friends and family, it is then you truly understand the level of Worthing.
My only issue. It was a shame to be on my way to the hospital for my last appointment to see my partner and son in the car park who had just attended an appointment to see a doctor for one of our daughters, the doctors shouted at my partner to control our son (who suffer's with autism but is not harmful to anyone). It was a shame to bump into her and hear her experience which put a damper on my appointment, but nevertheless, this still hasn't affected my overall great experience of a great hospital, but i was tempted to pay him a visit personally, but I was told I had cancer so that changed my plans.
Every one who works at Worthing Hospital are amazing the cleaning staff should be very proud of themselves the hospital is spotless.
The Breast Care Centre staff and the staff on Chanctonbury ward as well as the Theatre staff were all excellent.
Actually I haven't given birth since 2011 but I felt I wanted to give a review based on my time with the midwives at Worthing Hospital. I was in labour for 25 hours and each midwife (I had about three come onto their shift) was fantastic. I know it's a while ago but everyone I have ever spoken to about Worthing have all had praise to give regarding the midwives.
They were all helpful, kind and accepted my crazy gas & air ramblings. I hope, if I ever have another child, to have as good (if not better) a treatment as I did then.
I have always been treated with respect and dignity whilst attending many different departments of this hospital. The staff are all very compassionate and helpful.
The Breast Care Centre has been my main port of call and everyone I have come across in this Centre have been brilliant.
In the Chemotherapy ward I was treated with total respect and kept fully informed of everything that was going to happen on each visit.
I believe the care I have had has been second to none.
My partner Jean, (aged 88) was admitted to this ward after a nasty fall in Worthing, resulting in a broken arm, bruised body etc. From the moment we entered Worthing hospital my partner was attended to quickly and expertly. ALL the staff, Doctors, Nurses were ABSOLUTELY MARVELLOUS. Nothing was too much trouble. There was a genuine feeling of goodwill on the ward with a grand mood of comradeship. In the end my partner was sad to leave such good friends.
A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL AND EVERYONE CONCERNED.
